We must look at our youth as the leaders of tomorrow. From one perspective, this is frightening, but from another, we are encouraged when we consider those who are being raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Historically, God has always pulled out of society a select few the multitudes did not carry out His purposes but a small number (sometimes even one) turned the world upside down. Men such as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego or Joseph and women such as Phoebe literally changed the tide of history.
For many parents, there is great concern when they consider their children. But God’s Word promises that when we sow the seeds of truth and pour our hearts and lives into them, when they get older they will have a map. They will understand the principles of truth that will enable them to walk with God during their lifetimes. God does not guarantee that a child will walk perfectly every moment of every day. Our children may get off the right path but they will always be able to come to themselves.
As parents, God can reveal to us the vital importance of the seeds we sow. Mothers, especially at times, may feel there are not enough hours in the day, but with God’s help, they should never give up hope.
In Genesis, we read that God brought Eve unto Adam as a helpmeet a companion for life with whom he would share the grace of life. Adam and Eve had no sense of self-consciousness, shortcomings or sin. They were completely uninhibited before their Creator and God sent them forth to have children. God’s plan is for a family. Yet it is not in man to direct his own paths.
There is a spiritual attack coming on the Christian family in three ways: (1) the luring away of fathers from their responsibility to their children by convincing them the pursuit of material things is more important; (2) the filling of the minds of children with thoughts and beliefs that take them away from Biblical precepts; and (3) the great attack on the value of womanhood. Christian women need to apply God’s instruction on how to be wives and mothers, how to befriend their children and how to be keepers of the home. The Christian mother walks by faith and trusts in God, honoring Him and investing in her children from the smallest to the greatest task. Ephesians instructs us regarding the Christian marriage and children.
A mother does many things. The most important of all is her teaching and training of her children how to live godly. She teaches her children how to love God showing them how to pray and the value of prayer; reading with them and teaching them how to read the Bible. She teaches them the value of unadulterated biblical truth. They must not get weary in the day to day tasks but to keep a vision of the “big picture.” Their labors are not vain in the Lord.
May all mothers, stand-in moms, surrogate mothers and mother-figures be blessed for all the wonderful things they do to care for the men and our children.
