"Start Your Day Right" - Rev. Steven A. Michels

Philippians 3:1; Proverbs 8:17; Mark 1:32-38; Mark 6:30-32; Proverbs 8:17; Psalm 5:1-3; Psalm 63:1-8; 108:1-4; 119:147; 127:1, 2; 143:8-10

How often do we feel we are ahead of the day from the time we arose in the morning? How often do we greet the day with “Good Morning, Lord? What can I do for you today?” How often, when we awake, are we immediately determined to find a quiet place where we can enter into the rest with the Lord, fully intending to communing with Him in prayer?

In the field of sales, as well as other businesses, a person must be a “dual representative” or salesperson. He has to meet the need to immediate customers by building the product’s value to be equal with the cost. But they also have to deal with management which expects a person to dedicate his entire life to making money for the company. A great deal of time and effort is put into these endeavors when it comes to the company’s profit, while the customer does everything to get a product for the least amount. With the knowledge of the Word and the spirit of God dwelling within an individual, one can learn how to do a job honestly and well, while still serving God and using his time wisely.

We must never allow the world to dictate how we live. Our priorities must be lined up according to the Word and Godly principles. How do we do this? Bu making spending time with God and His Word first thing in the morning our first priority. This is a habit pattern we can establish in our lives by simply starting with perhaps five minutes in simple prayer and then adding a few minutes more each successive morning.

The scriptures teach of these principle often. Proverbs says God loves them that love him and those that seek Him early will find Him. Jesus Christ rose up a great while before day, went out into a solitary and prayed. It was then he got God’s “marching orders” for the day. The Psalmist speaks of rising early and seeking God.

No matter what time our day starts, we should develop a habit pattern of seeking God first — through prayer and through His Word. We can ask our God to teach us His will and lead us into the land of uprightness.
