Taking a step of faith is part of expecting to receive from God. We know from God’s Word that He will answer our prayers, so we can certainly have an attitude of expectation. Another aspect of this way of life is understanding we must “step outside the box.” God expects us to walk out of our “comfort zones” when He gives us instruction. We cannot afford to get so comfortable that we miss out on some better thing God may have for us. For example, Peter stepped out of the box when he walked on water. He chose to step out on faith and try what seemed to be impossible.
How do we arrive at the point of trusting God so we can walk out on faith? Like a child, we start by crawling and then take a first step. We have to decide ourselves whether or not to take that step with God as our partner. God says in His Word that our steps will not slide as we keep His law in our hearts. He will protect us. Because of holy spirit, we have a clear channel to God, which is necessary in order to walk in faith. It enables us to communicate with God, Who is Spirit. Without that connection, God cannot talk with us and we are unable to discern things spiritually. God, through spirit, will show us things our senses cannot detect. We have a choice to step out on faith with God, or play it safe. What good is it to have faith if we are not going to walk out on it? God always rewards those who trust Him. It is up to each of us to decide to take the step of faith and see what God will bring to pass.
God wants to pour out His favor on us. He want us to enlarge our vision, to step out on faith and see what He will do in our lives. He is faithful, and give us the Word so we would have direction. We must make room in our thinking and enlarge our vision.
Because of God’s spirit in us, He can make things happen supernaturally to bless us. Instead of looking at circumstances, we should look to God to see His hand in the circumstances. If God is guiding and directing our steps, then His favor will be evident in our lives. Instead of looking at where and who we are, we can walk by the spirit, step outside of the box and see all things are possible with God. When we walk out on faith, we will reap the benefits.
