As Christians, we should choose to believe and stand upon what is written in the Word of God, and not the creeds of men; that what Jesus Christ accomplished for us is a spiritual reality. We should place no confidence in rites and traditions, except where they are aligned with truth.
During the Christmas season, we should stop and consider deeply not only that Christ was born, but the purpose of that birth. It was just the beginning of our redemption, in which we could become God’s children by spiritual birth. Upon accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we receive the gift of holy spirit which is the token, or down payment of the promise that we will spend eternity with our Father.
We have physical bodies with breath-life but Jesus made available a different life-form spirit life. There is nothing mystical or difficult to comprehend about this. God’s Word gives us some very simple and basic truths in considering Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In Luke 1, we find the instruction of Gabriel, which included the information that Jesus would be the Son of God. Matthew describes Jesus about 30 years later when he was baptized by John the Baptist. At that time God declared that Jesus was His beloved Son, in whom He was well pleased. John 10 describes an exchange that took place between Jesus and the religious leaders of the day. Jesus said of himself that he was the son of God. We read in the Word that Jesus said in many ways that he did nothing of himself. He never exercised his freedom of will independently of God’s will. God’s Word, actions and desires became Jesus Christ’s. They were one in purpose.
Peter knew who Jesus was. By revelation, he declared Jesus to be the son of the living God. Beginning in Genesis, we find Jesus as the promised seed of the woman and can follow this thread all the way through Revelation. When the fullness of time reaches its apex again according to God’s will, He will send His Son again to gather us together.
If we love God, we love His Son, who was born of God. If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we are overcomers. Because we have the spirit and are children of God, we can believe on the name of the Son of God and have eternal life.
God gave us not only His Son, but also the spirit so we could fulfill the work He would have us to do. Let us look to that day when Jesus Christ returns to gather together the elect of God and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
