"We Have Good Hope" - Rev. Steven A. Michels

John 10:27-29; 11:25, 26; Revelation 1:4-18; Matthew 16:13-18; I Thessalonians 4:16, 17; Hebrews 2:9-19; Romans 5:6-21; Titus 1:1-7; II Thessalonians 2:13-17

Jesus Christ speaks of eternal life and the great hope for the Christian man or woman. Mature Christians see that in this life we experience so many of God’s blessings and should have a heart of thanksgiving. Among all the great blessings we have received from God, our one, great blessing, the anchor that holds us stedfast in our faith is the hope of resurrection life.

The greatest fear of mankind is the fear of not just death, but nothingness. Jesus told his disciples that those who hear his voice and follow him shall have eternal life, never perish and no man could pluck them out of his hand or his Father’s hand (John 10:27-29). We are safe and secure with Jesus Christ and his Father, God Almighty.

Revelation teaches us that Jesus Christ has the keys to unlock the death of the grave. Matthew states that the “gates of hell” will not prevail against the church built on the Rock, Jesus Christ. Death can not prevail against the church of Jesus Christ because it is not a religion or something temporal, but an eternal reality which was foreordained to exist also in the new heaven and earth.

Through Jesus Christ’s death, he rendered null and void him who had the power of death, the Devil. Jesus Christ has the right keys to the death of the grave. We live in light of this. For those who love his appearing, there will be a crown and we will have all eternity to be with God.

These foundational truths are what gives us fiber in our belief system. The hope of Christ’s return is the anchor to hold on to in the midst of life’s storm. What greater gift to be thankful for than that of eternal life! Paul declares in Titus that we have that promise from God, Who cannot lie. Whether we believe Him or not, it is the truth.

Our God and Father, in His foreknowledge, chose us to salvation. We have GOOD hope! It is everlasting consolation. We can be thankful that our God loves us so very much!
