"A Kingdom Divided Against Itself" - Rev. Steven A. Michels

[Titus 1:9; James 1:21]; I Peter 5:8-11; Mark 9:38-40; Luke 9:49, 50; Mark 3:13-26; Matthew 13:24-30; 35-43; Jeremiah 33:19-22; Ecclesiastes 11:3; I Timothy 1:5

These are important times for our country and the church of Jesus Christ. It is good to have conviction and speak boldly for what we believe, to take a stand and support those who represent our beliefs, judgments, and moral perspectives. It is also a great time to have a mind-set of sanity. In Titus 1:9 we are told to hold fast the faithful Word. James 1:21 declares we are to receive the engrafted Word with meekness. Having qualities of humility and meekness make us eternal students of life.

We know we have an enemy whose goal is to destroy and murder the innocent. Those who may hold a different political or religious view from us are not the enemy. We can disagree with others regarding these issues but still live peaceably with them. Mark records an account when the apostles were concerned because they saw one who did not follow Jesus, yet was casting out devils in his name. Jesus told them to forbid him not. Those not against us are for us.

With spiritual eyes and as part of the great army of Jesus Christ, we should see the error of those causing division. We can hold to our principles and faith, standing and speaking the Word, but when we do so with the love of God and humility, it will shine.

We are to be busy about being fruitful, living godly, speaking the Word, winning souls for the Lord and worshipping the one true God. We are not to be preoccupied with the “weeds in the fields.” God already has that handled. Those who choose to wrestle with the Word of God will find it to be to their detriment. What God has said will be. It will be whether one agrees with it or not. Neither belief nor unbelief can affect the outcome of what God says He will do.

Regardless of who leads our country, we should pray for them. God is only bound by the mind-set of His people. Politics may come and go, but God and His Word continue forever. We are to wear the badge of love and be representatives of our God.
