An interesting perspective to view the resurrection is through the life of Jesus Christ himself. What was it like for him to have the promise of resurrection life from the Father? God was kind and gracious to give Jesus examples of how he himself would be raised from the dead by the power of God.
First of all, God told Jesus what would happen. Jesus knew the reality that he would be raised from the dead because the Father told him through the prophets of old and through the spirit. Jesus knew the plan.
Prior to Jesus’ death and resurrection, there are several accounts of him raising others from the dead. Luke contains the record of Jesus raising the young man from the dead. Matthew contains the record of Jesus’ raising Jairus’ daughter. What these events must have done for the faith of Jesus Christ to see the power of God! We should also expect to see God’s power in our lives, which will fortify our own faith as well regarding our resurrection.
When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Lazarus had been dead four days. Jesus knew the promise of God that he would be resurrected after three days and three nights so it must have been very encouraging to him that God answered his prayer and raised Lazarus from the dead after four days. Lazarus’ resurrection was the final confirmation to solidify God’s promise of raising Jesus from the dead and that he would be the firstborn from among the dead.
The surety of our salvation rests solely in the faithfulness of our God and Father, and the redemptive work and faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a comfort it is that this is not dependent upon our abilities but rather upon Jesus Christ’s ability to stand before God and be judged righteous.
What God promised His Son, He solidified for Jesus in his earthly ministry. What He promises us in light of Jesus Christ, He will solidify for us. We must open our eyes and look for the power of God to establish for us the living reality that as God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, so He will raise us from the dead.
