When a man or woman accepts Jesus as Lord, believing in the heart that God raised him from the dead, he or she is given a new life in Christ. That new life of a spiritual nature gives a person the ability to read and understand the Word of God. How that person lived prior to receiving a new life in Christ is irrelevant. What matters is what God did in Christ Jesus to make that person a new creation. The Word tells us that Jesus Christ was a complete savior from sin.
There are times we will fall short and not walk according to the abilities we have in Christ. When we do so, we can plead the precious blood of Jesus Christ from a repentant heart. Life is like the water in a river. When it passes by, it is gone, never to flow by again. It is always new water. With each new day, we are given a new beginning. In Philippians Paul’s counsel was to forget those things which are behind and reach forth for the things which are before, always remembering the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Forgetting includes not just the bad, but also we are not to rest on our past accomplishments. We are always to move ahead.
David’s perspective in Psalms was to remember the days of old by meditating on God’s works. His focus was to acknowledge God’s love, wisdom, power and might and to ask for help to walk in God’s ways. We can trust our God, seeking His Word and will as direction for our walk. As we do so, God can give us a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26 and 27).
Each day is a new beginning. Each year we can love God more. If we love and serve Him and our Savior more, we will also have a tend to serve one another more. Timothy says the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience and of unfeigned faith. If we have this love, it will be first toward our heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Then we will have love for one another and the people of the world.
A pure heart is the result of putting on pure thoughts. The only pure thoughts can be received from the Word of God. Let us continue to grow in our knowledge of God and our Lord Jesus Christ and in so doing come to a greater knowledge of God’s will for our lives.
It is a new day, and in it we have a new beginning. In Christ Jesus we have a new life that is renewed day by day because of the spirit residing within us and the Word that is living and real.
