The Word of God contains truths regarding everything to do with life and godliness. When life becomes taxing and difficult and God’s people are under attack by their personal adversary the Devil, we must go to the scriptures for answers. We have a personal adversary and there is a battle. We must learn how to resist or stand against him. To do so, we need a plan.

We see two types of victory in the Word of God — the great victory over death and the small victories we can have in our walk with God.

Victory Over Death — Because Jesus Christ defeated the Adversary, the final victory has been won. Victory over death is a reality for God’s people because they have received eternal life.

Day-By-Day Victory — When we are born again, we automatically receive certain things like incorruptible seed, the nature of God and become children of God. However, we still are in a battle with God on our side and the Devil and his hosts against us. Wherever there are two opposing wills, there will be a fight. Every decision we make day-by-day and minute-by-minute will determine which side we will be one. Where we place our faith determines the outcome of each and every challenge with which we are presented.

Our Personal Adversary — God’s Word declares we have a personal adversary, the devil, who seeks to devour. We must have whole thoughts which comes from putting God’s Word in our minds. The adversary knows that the only real enemy the believer now has is fear which he will use against us. Ignorance of Satan and his devices leaves the believer’s greatest enemy undetected. The average Christian has no idea who Satan is, let alone a knowledge of how he operates. Often a Christian’s choice is not between good and bad, but between good and best. We need a clear plan for daily victory against the devil

A Clear Plan For Victory — James declares the plan to daily overcome the Devil’s influences. James 4:7 states we are to submit ourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us. “Submit” means to set or appoint oneself under another; to be subject to. “Resist” means to stand against. When we make ourselves subject to God, being willing to do things His way, we will be standing against the Devil. The result is that the Devil will flee.

Implementation of the Plan For Victory — We must know that there is one true God and there is a Devil. We must know how God works with His people and how the Devil works against the Christian. We must develop a spiritual perception and awareness with God’s help in order to recognize Satan’s attacks and how to stand against them. To do so requires study of the scriptures and controlling our thinking. Our final checkpoint is to let all our heart motives be based on love.
