We have often spent time looking at our inheritance, at God’s promises to us, and what is “in it for us.” But there is another perspective given in the Scriptures which is unique. It is God’s perspective in terms of what is “in it for Him.”

The Bible is a story of love - one of a Father and His family. The Word of God unveils for us the Creator’s relentless pursuit of an eternal dream - to be one in an everlasting love-relationship with His people. In the opening chapters of Genesis, man was a perfect three-part being dwelling in Paradise. He was the object of all God’s love, grace and blessings and had complete access to the heart of God by spirit. The book of Revelation reveals how God will again enjoy His eternal family.

God’s portion is His people. He dwells in the praises of His people. He has no greater desire than to see His children walk in truth, acknowledging Him as the source of all their blessings. When we think along these lines, we cannot but help expressing our thanksgiving and praise to our God.

Ephesians declares the eternal purpose and desire of God to have children. It says we are God’s inheritance of something yet to come. God wants the eyes of our understanding to be opened. He wants us to know the intimate reality that He loves us. With God on our side, no one and nothing can be against us. He supplies everything we need. As His children, in fellowship with our Father, we have access to all His resources. How do we receive this? By God’s grace.

God’s desire and plan to be one in an everlasting love relationship with His people is unfolded in the Holy Scriptures. Against that backdrop, we realize we have an inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled and fades not away. Our salvation is sure.

Jesus Christ spoke words of promise as recorded in John 10 when said his sheep will hear his voice, he will know them and they will follow him. They will receive eternal life, shall never perish and no one can pluck them out of His Father’s hand.

What an eternal purpose and what salvation we have!
