"Blessed Is The Nation" - Rev. Steven A. Michels

Psalm 33:12; Deuteronomy 28:1-15; Genesis 12:1-3; 39:1-6; 18:17-33; I Kings 18:46 to 19:19; John 21:17-22; [Romans 8:28]; II Timothy 3:1-8; [Exodus 7:8-12]; II Timothy 3:9-14; [Romans 12:2]; I Timothy 3:15-17; 4:1, 2; John 10:10; I Timothy 2:1-6; Galatians 5:1

A nation is made up of individuals and each individual contributes to the whole. God promises to bless a nation when its people reverence and honor Him. However, the scriptures are clear that we as individuals are responsible for changes in our own hearts and lives and for not assuring any changes in government or country. Rather, God directs us individually to change and live for Him. We may not have the power to change a nation, but we do have the choice and power to control our own lives. Then, as each contributes to the whole, there will be those wonderful grass root movements that result in a reformation of sorts. Reformation leads to revival and revival leads to godliness by the people. Such was the case with our founding fathers who were individuals who fought and died for individual freedoms.

As we live holy unto the one true God, we receive His blessings in every area. God will bless a nation for one individual. God told Abraham that “in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” God blessed Joseph and those around him wherever he was. Everyone around Joseph knew the Lord was with him because Joseph was with the Lord.

The record of Sodom and Gomorrah depicts how God will care for His people. When God told Abraham what would be happening in Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham negotiated with God. He was certain there would be at least 10 people who would believe and God would spare the land for the 10. Sadly, there were not even 10 and God had to send His angels to get Lot and his family out.

Yet, after all the events with the prophets of Baal, Elisha the Tishbite thought he was the only one left to serve God. He thought there were no others, but God told him there were seven thousand. God will bless a man to bless a country and bless multitudes for the sake of some. In spite of all the problems and faults we have in America, there has never been a country with the kind of blessings we have here. That is why people continue to move here by the hundreds of thousands.

In John, Jesus taught Peter about service. He warned Peter to stay focused on following and serving him in light of the calling Peter had for his own life, not the calling of others. We too are to continue to prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Each of us have a unique calling for our own lives. We must decide to stand up and speak the truth of God’s Word.

As we stay focused, our first priority is that of prayer. We are to pray for our leadership around the world, our President and leaders of other countries.

God promises to bless a nation when its people reverence and honor Him. As the poet said, “One man awake with dawn in his eyes, multiplies.” As we live our lives according to the Word of God, reverencing our heavenly Father, people will notice.
