Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:1-12:3; Mark 10:27; II Kings 6:1-6; Luke 5:17-20; Mark 4:35-41; Matthew 14:22-29; Acts 9:10-19; Acts 12:1-17; Acts 16:16-34; Acts 20:17-12; Hebrews 11:32-12:2
When we read records in God’s Word and witness those who responded to either the written or revealed Word, we can say, “Now that’s what I call faith!” Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. We receive the Word of God either by reading it in the Bible, someone speaking it to us or the Lord can give us His Word through His spirit, which is called revelation.
Hebrews 11 is affectionately called “The Believer’s Hall of Fame.” It lists many people who received the Word of God, acted upon it and it came to pass. There can be no faith or believing unless it is prefaced by God’s Word God must initiate it.
During the quiet times in our lives, we may think of things that keep us from being our best for Him. Mark 10 speaks of the rich, young ruler who wanted to know how to rid himself of what was holding him back, yet when Jesus challenged him, he could not let it go. Instead of asking for help in getting it out of his life, the rich, young ruler gave up, calling it impossible.
When we have things we cannot get rid of, the situation is impossible. But with God’s help, nothing is impossible. We simply cannot deliver ourselves.
Below are listed some records in the Word which elicit a reaction of, “Now that’s what I call faith!”
II Kings 6:1-6 Elisha receives revelation regarding the lost ax head.
Luke 5:18-20 The man whose friends lowered him through the roof so Jesus could pray for his healing
Mark 4:35-41 Jesus told the winds and the seas to be still
Matthew 14:22-29 Jesus and Peter walked on water.
Acts 9:10-19 Ananias believed the word of God and went to minister to Saul
Acts 12:1-17 Peter was in prison and the angel of the Lord came and delivered him.
Acts 16:16-34 Paul and Silas were in prison, yet sang praises to God because they had faith He would deliver them.
Acts 20:7-12 Paul was preaching for a long time when the man fell out of the window.
Although the people thought he was dead, Paul declared he was not, prayed for him, then continued preaching.
There are many other examples in God’s Word where we can declare “THAT’S WHAT I CALL FAITH!” One man or woman who believes and acts for God for even just one moment in time is more valuable than all the unbelievers together who have ever lived.
