Proverbs 3:5-7; Psalm 34:4; 118:7-9; Hebrews 13:5,6; [James 1:5]
We should trust in the Lord as never before, especially in light of the very special circumstances in which our nation and the world finds itself these days. We become aware of tragedy, war and rumors of war very quickly because of our technological society. Years ago, there was as much evil and tragedy as today but we did not have the same technology.
Preparation for disaster of any kind is important. We should know how to survive under adverse circumstances. In light of preparation and in spite of all the physical, common sense plans we achieve, our best preparation is to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding.
God’s guidance, wisdom and promises are paramount to our thinking. Facts and information are surpassed by the knowledge of God. In time of trouble, we can trust God to direct our paths. We will know what to say and do. That is one of God’s promises.
No matter how prepared we are for disasters, we should not be so silly to think we can take care of our families and others by ourselves. We must remember to ask God what to do!
We can take God at His Word! We also have authority in the name of Jesus Christ. This is the greatest human weapon we have. We should be well-informed and prepared. We would like to think our armed forces and current administration have our best interest in minds, but God’s Word exhorts us to put our trust in God, rather than have confidence in princes.
God’s Word promises in Hebrews that God will never leave us nor forsake us. This verse literally reads, “never, never, never leave thee nor forsake thee.” The emphasis is on “never.” Hebrews continues by saying the Lord is our helper and we do not need to fear what man will do to us. James says if we lack wisdom, we should ask of God with faith. Even if our faith falters and the worst were to happen and we were to die, our next waking moment brings us into eternity with Jesus Christ. We should thus seek God daily, asking what we should do, trusting Him, and speaking the truth to others.
