"Why Jesus Christ Came Into The World" - Rev. Steve Michels

Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:30-35; 2:8-14; [John 3:17]; John 10:10; [I John 5:12]; John 18:37; Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 2:1-19; Revelation 1:5-7; 19:11-16; 20:1-6; 21:1-6; 22:12, 20, 21; II Corinthians 9:15

It is said that Jesus would come into the world to save his people from sins. This is one reason. “Jesus” is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament name “Joshua,” meaning “Jehovah is salvation.” It was Jesus who was born into the world to accomplish God’s plan and desire for Him to give His people salvation.

“The Son of God” is Jesus’ official title as God’s representative who would reign on the throne forever. The Old Testament prophecies state this as one fact. The credential to this individual as being God’s anointed, His Messiah, His Christ would be that he would sit on the throne of David and rule over God’s people for a period without end.

“Christ” means the Messiah and Messiah is strictly a Hebrew concept, not a Greek one. Thus “Christ,” or christos is merely a Greek rendering of the word meaning “Messiah.” The word “Christ” also means “anointed.” As God anointed David to be King over Israel for a temporary time, so Jesus, the Son of God, is God’s anointed, to rule over God’s people.

Another reason Jesus came into the world was to bring peace and good will to men. God did not send him into the world to condemn the world, but sent him that through him the world might be saved.

Jesus also came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The word in John 10:10 for life means life in all of its existence. God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, redeemed mankind judiciously and righteously. Christ brought us spiritual life when we are born again. We can all testify of what God has brought us from. Jesus Christ came into the world to reconcile all men and women to God. He was a sin offering to bring back the union that man and God once had before Adam and Eve’s fall in the garden.

Christ came to bear witness to the truth and to be king. He will be king on earth when he returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is a day coming when Christ shall return and every knee shall be bowed.

When we realize the reasons Christ came into the world we are amazed and awed. Our response will be as stated in II Corinthians 9:15: “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”
