Often we become preoccupied with the things of the world. Yet, when we become spiritually-minded and consider our purpose in this life, which is loving service to God, the things of this world become insignificant.

In II Timothy 2, Paul wrote to Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. In the spiritual realm, our strength comes from the Lord. He continued by saying that Timothy was to commit what he had been taught to faithful men, who would teach others also. We share God’s Word with everyone, but when it comes to committing the faithful Word, we must find faithful people in whom to invest. In this way, God’s Word moves on. This type of commitment requires endurance. Jesus Christ promised an abundant life, not an easy one. We are not to get entangled in this life by becoming covetous of the things of this world. I Timothy 6:8 says, "having food and raiment, let us be therewith content." We must learn to be content with just those things we actually need.

I Thessalonians 5 speaks of keys to Christian living. We are to rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing and give things to God in EVERY THING. The will of God is to be thankful, which stems in part from realizing contentment.

Our God is good. He enjoys our prayers of praise, supplication, intercession and thanksgiving. God is watching out for us and listening to us. We can come boldly before His throne of grace and find help in time of need. We are to be anxious for nothing, but to go to God with our requests.

God is faithful and trustworthy. We can trust in Him with all our hearts. This speaks of an absolute, full surrender to God. Our thoughts and knowledge do not even rate compared with His. The scriptures often speak of how faithful God is. There is no trial, temptation, or test in our lives that God will not be there to help us through. There will never be a situation where we can say we are forsaken by God.

Psalms speaks time and time again of how worthy our God is to be praised. These words come from a thankful heart, one who acknowledges the goodness of God. We can sing praises to God, rejoicing and trusting in Him. We can be content, knowing God will deliver.

The peace of God can rule in our hearts. This is an attitude of heart, not just words. In Acts 17, while preaching on Mars Hill, Paul spoke of God. He said, "in him we live, and move, and have our being." This is true contentment. The greatest treasure we have is our relationship with our heavenly Father. We should be the most thankful and content people on earth.
