"When A Humble Nation Prays Part 2" -- Rev. Steve Michels

II Chronicles 7:14; 29:11; [Acts 13:22]; I Chronicles 29:18-20; Matthew 6:9, 10; II Chronicles 29:1-11, 20, 28, 29; 30:1, 8, 9, 18-22, 25-27; 31:1-4; 7-21; 32:1-23

David led the people of God by Word and example in his giving of personal wealth and, most especially in his reverential awe for God. He was a humble, meek man who sought the face of the Lord.

Jesus Christ taught his disciples to pray with a reverential heart.

Hezekiah’s "new order of business" was for God’s people to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways. God’s blessings would be that they would hear from heaven, their sins would be forgiven and God would heal their land. Hezekiah’s first priority was to open and sanctify the house of the Lord, to reestablish God and His Word in the ministers. Hezekiah had a "master plan" for the realignment of priorities of God’s people. He started with the church leadership, then the leaders in government, then he involved the people themselves. Hezekiah’s third order of business was to have God’s people return to God and reestablish the Word in their hearts and lives.

Because God’s people, the priests and Levites turned back to God, they were blessed. God was able to protect them against seemingly insurmountable odds when they were attacked by an invading army. They praised God day by day, receiving His forgiveness and healing and their hearts were filled with gladness. It was a true reformation and a genuine revival!

Hezekiah sought his God with all his heart and prospered. The people rested upon the words of Hezekiah. They were not trusting in the siege or the strength of the walls they had rebuilt — they were trusting in God’s promise delivered by Hezekiah.

Hezekiah had told the people, "Don’t be afraid but be strong and courageous … the Lord our God will fight the battle for us." They had to choose who they were going to believe. God was faithful. He delivered and guided them. In response to that great deliverance, the people brought gifts unto the Lord and presents to Hezekiah.

In carrying out his order of business, Hezekiah did what was right in the sight of the Lord. He opened the doors of the temple and instructed the priests and Levites to sanctify themselves and the house of the Lord. He gathered the rulers of the city, went up to the house of the Lord and made sacrifice for all of the kingdom. The people got rid of all the idols and the idolatrous practices. They kept the Passover and God healed the people. All the people who came out of the land of Israel and Judah rejoiced. Hezekiah commanded the people bring their tithes and offerings to the priests and Levites. They did so in abundance.

When a nation humbles itself before God, blessings follow. Let us pray to do the same.
