The message today is the same as 2,000 years ago — "Fear Not — He is Risen!" Let us recall the greeting of the first century church. When someone said, "He is risen," the response was, "Hallelujah, he is risen indeed!" Jesus did not keep the coming events of his life a secret. He warned his disciples but also gave them hope in telling them God would raise him on the third day. By using narrative development or scripture build-up, an overview of the chronological events of the death of Jesus Christ can be seen.

The last words Jesus Christ said was "It is finished." What was finished? The atonement, the full payment for our sins, the price for our reconciliation. After those great words of victory, the veil of the temple was torn in two, eliminating the separation between God and man. Jesus died on the cross, but let us not leave him there. The day he died was the darkest day on the face of the earth, but God did not leave him in the tomb.

Man’s greatest fear is death, but because of what Jesus Christ accomplished according to the will of God, we can be without fear, for he is risen!

The message of the angels to the women was "Fear Not — He is Risen." The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is the power that will raise us from the dead. One of man’s greatest fears is the fear of death. Hebrews speaks of what Jesus Christ did in completing all of God’s plan. It says in verse 15 that he delivered them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Fear Not — he is risen! As God raised Jesus Christ, He will raise every other person who has faith in God. The first words of Jesus after his resurrection were "Be not afraid."

I Corinthians 15 has one central theme — resurrection. Words referring to the resurrection appear 23 times in 58 verses. They declare that God gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 6:9 states that death does not have dominion over Jesus Christ, nor will it of us. How difficult is it to receive that promise of resurrection unto eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ? We are to simply confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart God raised him from the dead.
