Matthew 1:20, 21; Acts 5:29-31; 13:38; Luke 7:36-50; John 5:26-36; Matthew 9:1-9; Mark 2:1-14; Luke 5:17-28; Mark 6:7-13; James 5:13, 14; [Romans 6:1]; James 5:15; Psalm 103:1-3 With forgiveness of sins, many blessings follow, one of which is physical healing. The angel told Joseph Mary would have a son named Jesus who would save people from their sins. To save means to rescue or deliver. Peter speaks in Acts of Jesus who gave repentance unto Israel and forgiveness of sins. Luke speaks of the time Simon, one of the Pharisees, invited Jesus to his house. A woman who was a sinner came and anointed Jesus with an alabaster box of ointment. Simon was appalled because he knew the woman was a sinner and Jesus was allowing her to anoint him. Jesus spoke a parable regarding two debtors, one who owed a large sum of money and the other an insignificant amount. The creditor forgave the debts of both and Jesus asked Simon who did he think would love the creditor more. Simon answered, "The one who was forgiven most." Jesus recognized the woman's need and desire for forgiveness and she was made whole. The gospels speak of the account of the man who had the palsy whose friends brought him to see Jesus. They had to carry him through the rooftop in order to get to Jesus. In all three accounts, Jesus said to the man, "Thy sins are forgiven thee, arise and walk." Jesus knew this man's sins were holding him back from receiving the deliverance God had available. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We do not know what a person needs to elevate their faith to the point they receive God's deliverance. All of us at one point or another will need healing from something. God gave us the potential power to heal, just as He did Jesus. God will tell us what a person needs in order to receiving their healing. One of the manifestations of the holy spirit is gifts of healings. It is called gifts of healings (plural) because one can be healed of the same illness more than once. It is no more difficult to say, "Thy sins are forgiven thee" than it is to say, "Arise and walk." It is the same power of God to do both. Just as God worked with Jesus Christ, He can work with us, His children. He has commissioned us to bring the message of His Word and enabled us with the power of the Holy Spirit to minister healing. There is no formula for healing and deliverance. All are different. God gives us information when our heart's desire is to help bring deliverance to people. God can heal anyway He likes. It is a gift of God. Perhaps a person needs to know their sins are forgiven to receive their healing. Perhaps they will need to be anointed with oil. God will teach us how to help them as we remain humble and meek to His ways.
