"Being Thankful" -- Rev. Steven A. Michels

[Nehemiah 12:31; Daniel 2:23; 6:10; Psalm 30:4; 35:18; 106:1; John 6:11; Romans 1:8; 6:17; 7:23-25; 14:6, 7; I Corinthians 1:4; 15:57; II Corinthians 1:11, 2:14, 8:16, 9:11, 9:15; Ephesians 5:20; Colossians 3:17; Ephesians 1:16; I Thessalonians 1:2; 2:13; 5:18; II Thessalonians 1:3; I Timothy 1:12; 2:1]; Psalm 100:1-5; 103:1-5; 106:1; 150:1-6; Colossians 3:12-17

Thankfulness is something we should have in our lives at all times. We understand the benefits of it. There are times, however, we get sad and think about the negative things happening in our lives. When we change our focus to what we are thankful for, our perspective changes. As an exercise today, we will write two thank-you cards to people who have blessed us and a 4 x 6 index card to write a thank-you card to God.

Thanksgiving is an attitude of gratitude which results on focusing upon the many blessings in your life. It issues in praise to God Who has provided all for us. God knows there are times when we will fail to do so. He remembers we are just dust and has given us His Word which stands for all generations.

A great key to having an attitude of gratitude is to focus on God?s blessings. Psalms often reminds us of the goodness of God. There are times when our hearts are sick and the joy has left our lives. Psalms also reminds us that God?s mercy endures forever. When we have broken fellowship with God or others, it is important to be reconciled as quickly as possible. When we sin, God will chasten us through His Word so we can yield the peaceable fruits of righteousness.

Through Jesus Christ?s shed blood we have forgiveness of sins and through his broken body we have healing. We can remember that wholeness every time we eat and drink and praise God for all He has done.

We can have great thankfulness when we realize the blessings God has bestowed upon us in the wonderful family of God. Colossians exhorts us that in all we say and do, we give thanks to God and the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Happy Thanksgiving!

According to the Scriptures, we can be thankful ?
