"Trusting God in Every Situation"- Rev. Steve Michels
In the Old Testament, there are many examples of different situations in life that Gods people have gone through. Romans 15:4 says the things written aforetime are for our learning. There is much learning when we go to the Old Testament and read what Gods people were faced with and how God worked with them.
A man or woman can do all the right things by the senses with all the might and intellect of man yet if God is not involved, you will build something that will not stand. It is like the nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty. "All the kings horses" represented all the might, power and resources of the king. "All the kings men" represented all the intellect and counselors available. Yet all the might and intellect of the kingdom could not put Humpty Dumpty together again. Only God can do that.
As recorded in II Chronicles, Jehoshaphat was surrounded by three enemy armies. His first priority was to seek the Lord. He proclaimed a fast for everyone in the kingdom. The whole nation took time to seek the face of God and give Him praise. Then they acknowledged their situation and asked for Gods help. They were surrounded by the enemy. God delivered a message of deliverance via one of the prophets which said, "Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but Gods." Then the prophet told them what the armies of the enemy would do and that they would not need to fight in this battle. The end result was the Lord set ambushments against the three enemy armies and they were destroyed. All the nation of Jehoshaphat had to do is go in and take of the spoil.
II Chronicles also speaks of Hezekiah and his order of business. His first order of business was to reestablish God and His Word first with the spiritual leaders. His second order of business was to get the temple cleaned up and once again begin receiving offerings unto the Lord. His third order of business was for all of Gods people to begin to return to God and His Word. His fourth order of business is to receive the blessings of the Lord God of Israel. Then when Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came and encamped his armies against the Judah, they were prepared. They had a plan and Sennacherib was defeated.
You and God will always make a majority. The question is never, "Is God on our side?" but "Am I on Gods side?" As we seek Gods Word and will in our hearts and minds, we can trust God in every situation.
