It is the gift of holy spirit which enables us to understand the Word of God and spiritual matters. God is able to communicate to us and enlighten our eyes so we can walk with power. This is what separates us out from just being men of body and soul. We are literally and actually sons of God by seed. There is a purification that happens when we are mindful of what our sonship means to us now and ultimately when Christ returns which is a definite perspective adjuster. When we consider the scriptures we realize the Comforter Jesus spoke of in John is also called the gift of the Father, the promise of the Father, the spirit of God, the same spirit and the spirit of Christ. All these refer to the same thing, which is what was shed abroad on the day of Pentecost. As the original 12 received the gift of holy spirit, they were endued with power from on high. This also refers to the same thing the gift of holy spirit which enables us to communicate with our Father, Who is Holy and Who is Spirit. When Jesus was on earth, he could teach and comfort his disciples. They felt peaceful when he was around. But when he was preparing to depart, he told them he would send another Comforter, who would abide with them for ever. The word, Comforter, is from a Greek word, parakletis, which simply means one that comforts, counsels, advises or leads. The Comforter would be the spirit of truth and would be in them. John 14:26 says, "the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name." The Father was going to send holy spirit in Jesus name which would enable men and women to be taught all spiritual things. In Luke, Jesus told the disciples he would send the promise of the Father, which is to be endued, or clothed, with power from on high. In Acts, he told them they would be baptized with holy spirit. In I Corinthians it says the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. To know the deep things of God, one must have spirit. In I John 2, it is spoken of as the unction and the anointing. In John 4, Jesus speaks to the woman at the well regarding the gift of God and teaches her it is Gods will for people to worship Him in spirit and in truth. In Acts 2, Peter speaks of having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Again, these are all the same thing referring to the spirit that a man or woman receives when they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and believe God raised him from the dead. There is only one spirit. No man gets more than someone else because then God would be a respecter of persons, which Acts 10:34 declares He is not. Every person receives the gift of holy spirit when they are born again. God gives it by way of His Son, Jesus Christ. Each of us have our own gift, which is power from on high, to be endued with power, the spirit of Christ, incorruptible seed, the spirit of God and the spirit of truth. That same spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead will raise us up some day. It is up to us to use the spirit God has given us. I Corinthians 12, 13 and 14 teach us how. We all have the same ability to energize the spirit within us. It is the gift of holy spirit that guides us into the all truth and shows us those things to come. It gives us understanding of the Word of God, of the truth and enables us to walk with power.
