The wisdom of God surpasses any wisdom that the world could teach you. Yet, you must choose the wisdom that you wish to apply in your daily walk in this life.

The Dictionary of the Bible defines wisdom as "the ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding." Wisdom can be acquired via (1) personal experience (watching or interacting with those around you), (2) passing it on to you via your parents or elders around you or (3) putting God’s Word into application. To receive wisdom from God, you must be humble or meek. Humble means "to reduce the arrogance or self dependence. To make submissive to God’s Will." Meek means to "be yielding, not easily provoked or irritated." There is a difference between being meek. Humble is when you are willing to listen to what someone else has to say and put aside what you believe in. Meek is when you get to a point of lowness in your life and acknowledge God is above you.

God says the wisdom of the world is not contrary to God’s wisdom. You need the knowledge and understanding of God’s Word before you can acquire the wisdom of God. You can also learn from other people like Joshua did from Moses. Solomon asked God for wisdom and God gave it to him so that people knew that Solomon’s wisdom excelled all the wisdom of the world at the time. Job had everything and lost it all. Yet Job acknowledged God’s wisdom and omnipotence with humility and meekness.

James says if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God. We can pray for wisdom. God wants us to be wise and to seek understanding to walk in His ways. When we give God the reverence He deserves, He will show us how to apply His Word in our daily walk. He will give us the knowledge and understanding we need to get our wisdom from Him and not the world.
